Winter Menu Tasting at Malaka Spice.
Hello Everyone,
I was invited for the Winter Menu Tasting event at Malaka Spice. It is a restaurant located in the prime area of Pune,Koregaon Park. Malaka Spice is known for its South East Asian cuisine. Their new Winter Menu is a composition of the flavors of Japan, Korea and Cambodia. So I would be writing reviews about a few items that I tried the other day. I am not a Food Critic but I will be writing reviews based on my enjoyable experience and opinion.
Ambience - This was my first time at the restaurant. As I entered, it was quite a pleasant scenario. The restaurant was almost full, there was some soothing music put on, there were different types of colorful lights everywhere and people seemed to be having a great time.
We were warmly welcomed and escorted to the tasting panel table. There were around 10-15 people on the panel. Then we were each given a menu booklet to rate every dish.
Food :-
1)Pumpkin Stir fry with Basil - This dish was served in a nice bowl. The pumpkin wedges were fried in an adequate amount of oil so it wasn't too oily. It tasted really good with the crispy Basil. I think this is really a nice way of having pumpkin for those who don't eat pumpkin usually.
2)Tofu Katsu - A Tofu is a bean curd which looks similar like cottage cheese or paneer. The Tofu Katsu was presented in a pan like wooden plate with some raw mango salad and a dip. The katsu had a crispy covering and was soft and juicy inside. I think this can definitely be a substitute for chicken and you'll must try it. For me the katsu tasted better without the raw mango salad.
3)Veg / non-veg Noodles - The noodles that I had were a little broader and softer than the usual noodles. I don't know what they are called exactly. I think both the veg and the non veg noodles tasted quite same just one of them had pieces of chicken. The dish looked quite neat to me.
4)Chicken with peppers - It was a very pretty looking dish. The chicken and peppers were served in skewers with some salad and a chilly sauce dip. The chicken was cooked perfectly. The dish was a combination of sweet and savoury with the dip. I personally loved it and all the chicken lovers should try it!
Other than food, the team of Malaka Spice was very friendly. They would come to each one of us and ask whether we were having a great time. They also made sure that everyone was satisfied. So overall for me it was a great experience of food and hospitality. I would definitely suggest this place for dinner with family or friends.
